One of Brazosport College’s biggest focuses is to help train a skilled workforce. Playing one of the key roles in achieving this goal is the Brazosport College Foundation.

The mission of the Brazosport College Foundation is to raise and administer funds for the enhancement of educational opportunities at Brazosport College. With dedicated leadership from The Foundation Board and the College’s Board of Regents, the BC Foundation works tirelessly alongside industry partners, community members and individuals to enhance student success throughout the College.

“Our success means that we have a positive relationship with community partners that help meet the financial needs of BC students,” said Serena Andrews, Brazosport College Vice President, College Advancement. “We’re able to meet these needs through scholarships, as well as providing new facilities and equipment to ensure quality training opportunities.” said Serena Andrews, Brazosport College Vice President, College Advancement.

In 1999, the BC Foundation raised $5.6 million for campus expansions through the Building a Legacy campaign, as well as hosted the first Foundation Challenge Golf Tournament, with the funds from the tournament going toward student scholarships.

In 2007, the BC Foundation also was instrumental in helping the College with the passage of a $70 million bond referendum to transform the campus. Thanks to the generous support of the community, the BC Foundation once again raised $5.6 million to support this campus expansion through a Major Gifts Campaign.

These enhancements have proven vital to Brazosport College’s ability to help train the local workforce.

The BC Foundation played a key role in raising the funds required to build many of the buildings on campus, as well as the state-of-the-art training equipment housed in them. Most recently, the BC Foundation is leading a $3 million fundraising campaign to complete the Freeport LNG Crafts Academy, as well as assisting in raising funds for a new welding lab, which is scheduled to open in 2016.

The BC Foundation also continues to expand its scholarship programs through fundraising efforts. For example, the Sponsor a Scholar program has provided 22 students with full- or part-time scholarships while enrolled at Brazosport College.

“Thanks to the continued support of our donors, BC and the BC Foundation provided over 660 scholarships totaling $731,000 to students who did not qualify for financial aid for the year ending 2014,” Andrews said. “Providing scholarships for tuition and fees is vital for many students to enroll at BC, as well as to complete their personal goals.”

These are only a few of the Foundation’s objectives. In 2012, the Foundation created the Former Students Association and welcomes any Brazosport College student past or present to join. Other upcoming projects include the 10th anniversary celebration of The Clarion at Brazosport College, as well as the biennial Scholarship Soiree, which is a major fundraising event for more student scholarships.

The BC Foundation uses all its resources — including a committed Board of Directors, an energetic and dedicated community/industry partners — to grow with the community and provide the resources for outstanding educational opportunities through Brazosport College.
